PA Unplugged Greenhouse: Jill Coleman, Digital Childhood Council

May 14, 2026
1:00 PM EDT - 2:00 PM EDT
Ed Tech
Join Jill Coleman, founder of the Digital Childhood Council. When a teacher talks to your child, there is a license behind that conversation, a supervisor, a school district, and an insurer. When an AI system interacts with your child on a school-issued device, those same structures of responsibility and authority may not be clearly defined, consistently applied, or enforceable at the point of interaction. The Digital Childhood Council is working to address that. Jill is a child safety governance specialist and framework developer focused on institutional risk, accountability, and structural gaps in digital environments. She works on identifying the conditions under which responsibility, control, and accountability become misaligned when non-deterministic systems interact with children in regulated settings such as schools, and across broader digital environments. The PA Unplugged Greenhouse is a space for cultivation — ideas, community, and connection. Energy builds, advocacy grows, ideas take root, and people work side by side to bring something new to life. This event will be recorded.

Drop by Bruce Park to let the kids enjoy unstructured, mixed-age play! Adults take an intentional backseat "supervisory only" role. This is not a drop-off playgroup, however, each adult is welcome to coordinate with another adult if they want to leave their child under someone else's supervision. Kid Pledge: 1. I will play respectfully. 2. I will not deliberately hit or physically hurt another child. 3. I understand I need to get permission to leave the area. 4. I agree to listen to the adults. They’ll only get involved when they need to, and then it’s my job to listen. Parent Pledge: 1. I understand that not all kids will be happy all the time at Play Club. 2. I agree that the adults will not intervene in the children’s disagreements. 3. If my child deliberately hurts someone, they need to take a break. 4. I understand that this is a chance for my child to become more resilient, resourceful, and mature.
