Our mission is to empower parents to reclaim the play-based childhood through collective action, providing the digital tools that connect local parent groups with each other and to national movements to maximize their impact.

At Four Norms, we know your privacy and security is of paramount importance. This Privacy Policy ("Policy") outlines:

  • the information, including Personal Information, we collect from you
  • how we obtain this information
  • why we collect the information; and
  • what we do with it when you interact with our Site and use the information, materials, text, images, and tools on our Site ("Services").

Information We Collect

We collect, send, and store information you provide directly to us when you:

  • Use our Site or Services.
  • Create or update an account.
  • Contact us for support or other reasons.
  • Share information with us voluntarily.

While our collection of information varies based upon our interactions with you, we may collect certain Personal Information. "Personal Information" includes anything that identifies or could reasonably be linked to you or your household. It does not include public records, deidentified or aggregated data, or information excluded under applicable privacy laws.

Your email address. We require you to provide an email address when you create a User Account or Org Account.
Email addresses from other individuals. You may choose to invite other potential users to the Site by providing their email address in your User Account or in an Org Account.
Your password. We require you to enter a password when you create a User Account or Org Account.
Your zip code. We require you to provide your zip code when you create a User Account to allow us to connect you with other local users and relevant groups.
Payment information If you sign up for a paid subscription to use the Site and Services, limited credit card and/or bank account information may be collected by us and more detailed credit card or bank account information may be collected by our payment processor, Stripe (https://stripe.com/en-ca/privacy). We never have access to your full credit card number, but, to administer your account and prevent fraud, we may have limited access to the following: the type of credit card you used (Visa, AmEx, etc.), the last four digits of the card number, and the card's expiration date.
Your IP address. Your "IP Address" is a designator that is automatically assigned to the computer that you are using by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). An IP Address may be identified and logged automatically in our server log files and database whenever you use our Site and Services. Additionally, our server log files may show the time of your visit and the specific page(s) that you visited.
Information about issues you care about based on your activities on the platform. As part of your User Account or Org Account you may choose to associate with certain issues (e.g., phone-free schools).
Your specific activities on or connected to the Site. This might include message board posts or email invitations you have sent. When you are signed in or identified with a User Account or Org Account, your activities on or connected to the Site are automatically associated with your User Account or Org Account.
Any other information you voluntarily submit. You may choose to provide other information to us in your use of the Site. For example, we may collect information when you respond to a user survey. Providing this information is not required to use the Site or service.
The name of the browser you use to access the Site. Certain information is collected by most browsers or automatically through your device, such as your Media Access Control (MAC) address, computer type (Windows PC or Mac), screen resolution, operating system name and version, device manufacturer and model, language, Internet browser type and version. Collecting this information helps us build and deliver the best possible version of the Site and Services to you.
Information collected through cookies. We may use cookies, pixel tags (also known as web beacons and clear GIFs), and other similar technologies to (i) improve user site experience; and (ii) to better understand user activities on our Site. We never use these technologies for storing information to target advertising to you on or off our Site or for other marketing purposes.

We also use third-party analytics services like Google Analytics provided by Google Inc. to analyze how people use our Site and Services and provide statistical reports about aggregated user behavior.

Some of this information is considered "Personal Information" (e.g., your name and email), while other data (e.g., browser type) is not. If we combine the two, we treat it all as Personal Information and protect it accordingly.

If you are an organization account user, to allow you to send email messages that you choose to send to your email contacts through our Site to invite them to join your organization. By using this feature, you guarantee that you have the right to use and provide us the email addresses you submit.

If you are an individual account user, to allow you to be contacted by relevant organizations you join through the Site.

To introduce you to and connect you with local groups and organizations in or near your zip code.

Accomplishing our business purposes. We engage in these activities to manage our relationship with you, to comply with a legal obligation, because we have a legitimate interest, and/or with your consent.

For data analysis: for example, to improve the efficiency of our Site and Services.

For fraud and security monitoring purposes: for example, to detect and prevent cyber-attacks.

For developing new products, features, and Services.

For enhancing, improving, or modifying our Site.

For identifying usage trends: for example, to understand which parts of our platform are of most interest to users.

For operating and expanding our business activities: for example, understanding which parts of our Site are of most interest to our users so we can focus our energies on meeting our users' interests.

We use cookies and similar technologies to measure and improve our Services and develop features and functionalities on our platform.

We may anonymize, de-identify, and/or aggregate information and use such information to better understand and serve our users, for Site optimization, or for our own marketing.
Sharing communications that you have signed up for or we believe may be of interest to you. We engage in this activity with your consent or because we have a legitimate interest.

Communications related to groups or campaigns you have joined or signed up for.

Marketing communications related to new product features or Services from the Site you may be interested in. Any advertising or marketing activities are exclusively related to Four Norms Services, and https://www.fournorms.com as no data is used for third-party advertising or collected for such purposes.

Who May Receive Your Information

We will not sell or share your information with any third party unless described below.

Certain users on the Four Norms Site.

  • All information you post on our Site (such as posts on a group or community message hub) will be visible to other users in that group or community. When you provide information to us, you declare that such information is truthful and does not infringe upon the rights of any third party, that you have the legal right to share it, and that you are aware of the risks associated with sharing Personal Information concerning third parties.
  • Your first name, last name, email address and zip code will be shared with the Org Account user for any organization, chapter, or group you choose to become a member of while using the Site. If you do not wish to have this information shared with the Org Account user, do not join the organization, chapter or group.
  • Our site administrator has the ability to access the information in your User Account and Org Account to provide you and your organization or group with customer support and to resolve technical issues with the Site.

Legal and administrative obligations

We may use and disclose your information as necessary or appropriate, especially when we have a legal obligation or legitimate interest to do so:

  • Fraud prevention: We may use and disclose the information we collect from you as we believe necessary to investigate, prevent, or respond to suspected illegal or fraudulent activity or to protect the safety, privacy, rights, or property of us, our users, or others.
  • Law enforcement purposes: If requested or required by government authorities such as law enforcement authorities, courts, regulators, other enforcement agencies with appropriate jurisdictions, or otherwise to comply with the law (which may include laws outside your country of residence), we may have to disclose information we have about our users. We also may use and disclose information collected about you in order to exercise or protect legal rights or defend against legal claims.

Our service providers.

We share your Personal Information with our service providers (e.g., vendors) who assist us in performing certain services and functions necessary to operate our Site and providing services to you. We share information with our service providers subject to obligations consistent with this Privacy Policy, and on the condition that information is only used on our behalf and pursuant to our instructions.

Information Security and Data Retention

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, or destruction. However, no security system is completely foolproof, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account or information is no longer secure, please contact us right away at info@fournorms.com.

We retain information we collect from you where we have an ongoing legitimate business need to do so, including: to provide you with Services you have requested or to comply with applicable legal, tax, or accounting requirements. When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your information, we will either delete or anonymize it. If this is not possible (for example, because your information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.

Your Rights and Choices

Four Norms provides ways for you to access and delete your information. Your rights and choices include:

  • Email Subscriptions. We may communicate with you via email. If you no longer wish to receive marketing emails from us, please let us know by clicking unsubscribe in those messages or by emailing us at info@fournorms.com. We reserve the right to send you informational emails about any important notices regarding the Site and Services or important information about your account.
  • Deleting Your User Account. You can delete your User Account by emailing info@fournorms.com. Please note that in some cases we may retain certain information about you as required by law, or for legitimate business purposes to the extent permitted by law. Please note that deleting your User Account is permanent and cannot be undone.
  • Deleting an Org Account. You can delete your Org Account by emailing info@fournorms.com. Please note that in some cases we may retain certain information about you as required by law, or for legitimate business purposes to the extent permitted by law. Please note that deleting your Org Account is permanent and cannot be undone.

Linked Sites

The Site may contain links to other websites or applications ("Linked Sites") that are not owned by us. We do not control the collection or use of any information which occurs while you visit Linked Sites and do not take any responsibility for the content, products, or services on those Linked Sites.

Children Under the Age of 13

We do not knowingly collect information from children under age 13. If we learn that we have collected any information from a child under age 13 without verifiable parental consent, we will delete that information as soon as possible.

Policy Updates / Contact Us

We reserve the right to modify or replace this Privacy Policy at any time. The "Last updated" date at the bottom of this Privacy Policy indicates when it was last revised. Any changes will become effective when we post the revised Privacy Policy. Your continued use of the Site and our Services after we post any modifications or updates to the Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of those changes.
