Join us for a learning night on how to engage with schools and districts on bringing balance to technology in schools. We will review ways to successfully engage with school stakeholders that helps to plan with the goals of prioritizing student mental health, cognitive development, and finding balance with technology in schools. Our focus will be grounded in research on cognitive load, digital distraction, and child & adolescent well-being and supporting balance project communities who seek to move toward a more intentional, “less‑is‑more” approach to technology in schools. We will look at ways to practically reduce non-essential digital tools and ensuring that technology is used only where it clearly enhances learning or accessibility. We hope to build a through thread that balance with in person interactions and purposeful tech is also achievable in school. Read any of the provided books at the picnic tables and then run & play in the park! This is an all-day event to encourage families and children of all ages to get outside, read & play screen-free! The Social Dilemma Screening- Conference Room A This documentary-drama hybrid explores the dangerous human impact of social networking, with tech experts sounding the alarm on their own creations. We tweet, we like, and we share— but what are the consequences of our growing dependence on social media? As digital platforms increasingly become a lifeline to stay connected, Silicon Valley insiders reveal how social media is reprogramming civilization by exposing what’s hiding on the other side of your screen. We will have a brief discussion at the conclusion of this screening.

Join Jill Coleman, founder of the Digital Childhood Council. When a teacher talks to your child, there is a license behind that conversation, a supervisor, a school district, and an insurer. When an AI system interacts with your child on a school-issued device, those same structures of responsibility and authority may not be clearly defined, consistently applied, or enforceable at the point of interaction. The Digital Childhood Council is working to address that. Jill is a child safety governance specialist and framework developer focused on institutional risk, accountability, and structural gaps in digital environments. She works on identifying the conditions under which responsibility, control, and accountability become misaligned when non-deterministic systems interact with children in regulated settings such as schools, and across broader digital environments. The PA Unplugged Greenhouse is a space for cultivation — ideas, community, and connection. Energy builds, advocacy grows, ideas take root, and people work side by side to bring something new to life. This event will be recorded.
