July 15, 2026
9:30 AM EDT - 11:30 AM EDT
Independence And Play
About these meet-ups These are relaxed, screen-free meet-ups — a chance for the kids to run, climb, splash and explore outside while we connect as parents. There's no agenda and no RSVP needed beyond fournorms.com: pop in late, leave early, or stay the whole time, whatever your day allows. Every location is free. Bring water, sunscreen and a snack, dress for the weather, and new faces are always welcome — bring a friend! A shady-playground morning in Northside. Bryan Park has a big, tree-shaded playground and a flat, pretty loop around the lake if you'd like a stroll after. Good to know — Parking: three lots in the park, closest to the playground in the center. Restrooms: porta-potties on site for now (permanent restrooms are in the works). Tip: the shade here is wonderful on a warm morning. Drop in late if you need to and stay as long as the kids are climbing.

July 15, 2026
8:00 PM EDT - 9:00 PM EDT
Delay Smartphones Delay Social Media Phone Free Schools Independence And Play Ed Tech
Curious about stepping up to help lead our Central Virginia chapter? This short, low-pressure meeting is just for folks interested in taking on a lead role. We'll walk through our three pillars — intentional tech, free play, and cell phones — these are based on survey data from our kickoff meeting and where individuals wanted to focus attention. We will discuss the specific roles we're hoping to fill, talk honestly about what each one involves (and the time it takes), and answer your questions. Most of all, we'll plan our next steps together. You don't need any special expertise — just a willingness to own one piece and run with it. Whether you're ready to jump in or just want to learn more before deciding, you're welcome here. Want to see the roles first? Take a look at our one-page roles overview. Questions? Email centralvabalanceproject@gmail.com. RSVP to get the link. (Looking for our whole-community meeting instead? That's Wednesday, July 22 at 7:30 PM.)

Good to know — Parking: trailhead lot off Ridgefield Pkwy / Lauderdale Dr. Restrooms: limited — go before you come. Tip: bring water, bug spray and maybe binoculars. Middletown Balance Project Kickoff (In Person)

July 19, 2026
3:30 PM EDT - 4:30 PM EDT
- ABOUT THE BALANCE PROJECT - We're starting something in Middletown. The Balance Project is a 501(c)3, parent-led movement working to bring life + technology into harmony for kids, families, and communities at-large. Across the country, communities are coming together to build a realistic, sustainable “sweet spot” between screen life and real life that allows children, families, and communities to thrive in our ever-evolving society. Now it's our turn. - THE FIRST MEETING - We will begin with a presentation about The Balance Project (what it is, what it isn’t and why it’s resonating right now), the data that informs its approach, and the foundation they have developed. From there, we will have an open conversation about opportunities to continue the conversation in our community. Come for the information, connections, and opportunity to build local momentum. - WHO THIS IS FOR - This initial meeting is adults only. Anyone helping raise, teach, support, or care for a Middletown child is welcome. You do not need to have read the books, listened to the podcasts, or already know about The Balance Project. If you’ve ever felt uncertain, overwhelmed, outnumbered, or alone in trying to navigate decisions around tech/life balance, this room is for you. - A FEW QUICK FAQS - *Do I need to know about The Balance Project? No. Most people at the kickoff will be hearing about it for the first time. *Do I have to commit to anything by attending? No. This is purely an information session/introductory meeting. *Will refreshments be served? What is an event without food? Light refreshments will be available. *I can't make this date but want to stay involved. What do I do? Join our Virtual session on 7/21 or Visit https://www.fournorms.com/the-balance-project/middletown-md and join our online community hub. Future events and communications will be posted there! - STAY CONNECTED - Local happenings: https://www.fournorms.com/the-balance-project/middletown-md National movement: https://www.thebalanceproject.life/ · @thebalanceproject_hq

TBP Central Virginia - Monthly Meeting

July 22, 2026
7:30 PM EDT - 9:00 PM EDT
Delay Smartphones Delay Social Media Phone Free Schools Independence And Play Ed Tech
Join us for our next Balance Project gathering as we move from ideas to action. After a great kickoff in June, we're organizing around our three focus areas — as interest-based task forces — so everyone can plug in where they feel most drawn, and we'd love your help shaping them. This meeting, we'll introduce all three and let folks find their lane: 🛝 Free Play — creating more time and space for free, screen-free play in our kids' days, through play clubs, meet-ups, and everyday independence. 🏛️ Intentional Tech (Ed Tech & School Policy) — advocating for balanced, age-appropriate technology in Virginia schools. 📱 Cell Phones — helping families delay smartphones and wait together, like the Wait Until 8th pledge. Come explore all three, settle into the one that excites you, or simply listen and learn — there's no commitment required, and you're welcome to move between groups as you go. Newcomers are always welcome.
