HHSD School Board Meeting to Discuss Device Use

October 12, 2026
7:00 PM EDT - 8:00 PM EDT
Independence And Play Ed Tech
One parent spoke at the June 1 meeting, and again at the September 14 meeting, requesting more guardrails around school-issued devices. Parent requested that the board address what has been done and what plans to be done at Oct. 12 meeting but no guarantee that they will. The more people that show up (bonus points for giving a max 3-minute statement at the end), the better! 1. How much time do students spend on school-issued devices? (Hint: it's still before bell, during snack time, during indoor recess, on the bus, and during before care!) 2. What websites, apps, and content do students currently have access to? (Hint: YouTube, Siri, Safari, Apple News, including today's headlines, camera, recording feature) 3. How is student access to AI currently managed? (Hint: it's not. 2nd grader laptops have Copilot 365 pinned to the task bar, Copilot chat sits directly on top of the web browser, and trending search results are turned on) Residents are encouraged to sign the sign-in sheet at the meeting, and make a public statement.
