We’re a statewide coalition working toward a cultural shift in our approach to electronic devices & social media during childhood and adolescence. A cultural shift does not happen in a silo. We recognize that parents & caregivers, educators, and community members must work together to effect change. That is why PA Unplugged’s advocacy efforts span across our homes, schools, and communities.

Contact House Reps to Urge Support for Bell-to-Bell

SB1014 recently passed the Senate 46-1! Contact your PA house representative and ask them to support phone-free schools. Your voice matters. Lawmakers need to hear directly from parents, educators, and community members. A few calls or emails from local constituents can make a big difference.

Remove iPads from Sewickley Public Library Children's Room

This environment promotes reading, caregiver & child connection, and community through play and programs. Children still have access to information without the distraction of iPads. Many parents and caregivers bring their children to libraries to foster a love for reading and books. The library can be a low-tech space, free from the ubiquity of screens in childhood. The screen-based childhood is no longer an individual issue, but a collective action problem that must be addressed in our homes, schools, and communities. The space where behavioral change will take the longest is in individual homes, therefore society must look to our public spaces and institutions to be the first to make research-based changes.
