Our Mission

Distraction Free Schools Illinois is a coalition of parents, educators, and community members united in calling for legislative action and policy changes to address the overuse of smartphones, social media, and “ed tech” in Illinois schools. It is a state team under the Distraction-Free Schools Policy Project, an initiative led by Becca Schmill Foundation and Smartphone Free Childhood U.S. DFS IL is a growing, completely volunteer-run advocacy group pushing for phone-free, social media-free, and safe tech use in schools through state legislation.
