Why This Matters
This environment promotes reading, caregiver & child connection, and community through play and programs.
Children still have access to information without the distraction of iPads. Many parents and caregivers bring their children to libraries to foster a love for reading and books. The library can be a low-tech space, free from the ubiquity of screens in childhood.
The screen-based childhood is no longer an individual issue, but a collective action problem that must be addressed in our homes, schools, and communities. The space where behavioral change will take the longest is in individual homes, therefore society must look to our public spaces and institutions to be the first to make research-based changes.
