An Open Letter to the Alexandria City School Board on Reducing Screen Time

Excessive use of screens and digital technology harms children. Research shows that excessive screen use adversely impacts student health and well-being. In addition, greater use of digital technology correlates with lower test scores, and students perform worse on online exams than paper-based ones. Learning requires thinking. When classroom technology automates or gamifies thinking, it deprives students of the very process through which learning happens.
