Why This Action Matters

We have known from the start that teacher voices are key to the success of our movement. They cannot be ignored as we work towards classroom solutions that decrease screen time and increase pen and paper learning. The survey at the link below was created by PA Unplugged, an organization that some of our members belong to, which works to advance legislative efforts around limiting technology in the classroom and promoting digital wellness for students. We are asking that you share this survey with your child's teacher. Feel free to use this sample email:

Hello (teacher's name here),

I'm sharing a survey with you that PA Unplugged, an organization which works to advance legislative efforts around limiting technology in the classroom and promoting digital wellness for students, has recently published. The purpose of this survey is to collect data to bring to Harrisburg as they begin having conversations with our representatives about ed tech legislation. For transparency, Wait Until 8th Phoenixville will also review the data from these surveys to help their advocacy efforts be more inclusive of the important voices in this conversion around digital wellness. Some important points about this survey: 
  • This survey is anonymous. 
  • Teachers are asked to check boxes describing their experience with technology in the classroom, their building's policies regarding electronic devices, and their experience with statewide testing. There are a few optional open-ended responses at the end. 
  • The goal of this survey is to gain a clearer picture of how teachers are thinking about these important issues. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete.
  • Teacher responses will help inform local and statewide advocacy efforts and build an anonymized public dashboard where feedback can be compared across school districts throughout the state. 
  • To protect teacher privacy, demographic data visible on the dashboard will be shared only in aggregate, broken down by school district and grade level categories (K–2, 3–5, 6–8, and 9–12). The dashboard will be made public when we reach 500 responses.
This survey is completely optional, please do not feel pressure to respond. I've viewed the questions and I feel this survey will help us get a more accurate understanding of the concerns and needs of teachers in our district. We trust and respect teachers, and we want their voices included in this ongoing discussion.
