Touch Grass South Pas
South Pasadena Supports the LAUSD Resolution on Classroom Technology
We are South Pasadena families saying together that our kids come first. Touch Grass South Pas is a coalition of South Pasadena parents, educators, and community working to make intentional tech use the standard in our homes and our schools. We are not anti-technology. We use technology with intention, not by default. We follow the data on developing brains, attention, and well-being. Schools should be our models. Phone-free where it matters. Paper-first in the early years. Digital tools only when they genuinely serve learning. All five schools, one community. Arroyo Vista, Marengo, Monterey Hills, SPMS, and SPHS — every family belongs. *We are looking for South Pas to be a leader. We understand LAUSD has different funding and demographics, this is only one example of schools that are moving on this issue. This is a National Movement. These are the LAUSD resolutions recently passed we are in support of and looking to build off: Early Education (TK, K, & 1st Grade): Eliminates the use of district-issued tablets and laptops in the classroom. Grade-Level Time Caps: Mandates specific daily and weekly limits (e.g., maximum limits of 20-30 minutes daily for 2nd–5th graders and a 1-hour cap for 6th–8th graders). Platform Restrictions: Prohibits student-led use of YouTube and video streaming platforms on all district devices. No-Screen Zones: Prohibits the use of devices by elementary and middle school students during passing periods, lunch, and recess. Bell to Bell at the High School, no phones in passing periods or lunch. Contract and Privacy Review: Directs a comprehensive audit and review of all existing classroom technology contracts to ensure student privacy. Default Settings: Adjusts the district's 1:1 take-home device policy so that computers and tablets are only taken home if parents explicitly opt-in
