Why This Matters
Sometimes the most powerful thing a community can do is simply say: we're watching, we care, and we stand with this. This statement requires no confrontation and no meeting. It puts your community on the national map, adds your signatures to the collective count, and gives parents a low-friction way to show up for this moment together.
We are parents, educators, and community members in Maine RSU #22 who stand in full support of using technology with intention in the classroom in order to put children's development ahead of corporate EdTech interests.

We believe science-backed principles to aspire to
- Eliminate the use of student digital devices in Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade
- Prohibit student-led use of YouTube and other video streaming platforms
- Provide maximum daily and weekly screen time limits, by grade level
- Prohibit elementary and middle school student digital devices during lunch, recess, and passing period
- Encourage the use of paper and pen assignments and physical textbooks
- Encourage off-screen homework assignments, when homework is assigned, especially for elementary and middle school students
- Eliminate Generative AI in the classroom
we are proud to add our community's voice to the growing national chorus of families who agree. Our kids deserve better, and this moment is proof it's possible.
