Contact your board of education about HB25-1135

Last year, Distraction-Free Schools Colorado helped lawmakers pass House Bill 25-1135 into law, mandating that all school districts in our state must adopt a communication device policy by Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

What's next?

Email your district board of education the DFS international best practice model policy for phone-free schools using the template below before July 1. Invite other parents and community members to email your BOE, too:

Hi [district] board members,

My name is [name] and I'm a [connection to the district, such as parent, educator, community member, etc.].

Thank you for refining our school district's communication devices policy by July 1, per HB25-1135.

Mounting research is indicating that "away for the day" or bell-to-bell policies are the most effective kind of communication device policies for schools to adopt that support healthy social relationships, academic learning and emotional well-being.

For these reasons, I'm urging you to please implement a stronger bell-to-bell communication device policy for our school district. Please see the attached model bell-to-bell school policy, developed by the national Distraction-Free Schools Policy Project coalition.
