Our Mission
We are a growing group of District 196 parents and community members concerned about the unchecked expansion of screen-based technology into daily life. We are working to restore real-world connection, reclaim our collective attention, and champion intentional technology use to build stronger communities and drive lasting change for the next generation. We are not anti-technology. We believe tech can be a powerful tool when used with intention and purpose. We also believe that childhood needs to be protected in an increasingly digital world. While technology continues to advance faster than society can adapt, collective action remains our greatest tool for change.

Every parent wants their child to leave school sharper, more curious, and better prepared for life. The research isn't there yet to confirm that AI tools in the classroom support that goal -- and some credible evidence suggests they do not. A pause is not a rejection of technology. It's a commitment to getting this right.

PROPOSED DISTRICT 196 SAFE SCHOOL TECHNOLOGY USE RESOLUTION
Online and digital products marketed to schools often provide unsafe, ineffective, and inappropriate experiences, and also collect and share student data without appropriate consent. This petition seeks to ensure that Minnesota schools remain focused on effective, developmentally appropriate instruction, grounded in evidence-based practices and respectful of student well-being and privacy.

We Support the LAUSD Resolution!
The largest school districts in the country, led by the recent resolution passed by LA Unified School District, are starting to move on classroom screen time -- setting hard grade-level limits, blocking YouTube and gaming platforms on school devices, eliminating devices for the youngest students, and requiring weekly screen reports to parents. This isn't happening because administrators woke up and decided to act. It's happening because parents organized, showed up, and made it impossible to ignore. Your school board has the same authority right now. They do not need to wait for state guidance or federal standards. Dozens of districts have already acted. What they need to hear is that their own community is paying attention and expects them to lead. This petition gives them exactly that signal. The letter is based on real resolutions that have already passed -- the same structure, the same core asks, adapted so any community can put it in front of their board. It takes about three minutes to set up and a few shares to gain momentum. Your board gets a concrete ask from real families in their district. That's the whole mechanism. It works.
